Student Mailboxes

Open Your Mailbox Account
If you live in on-campus housing, you have been assigned a mailbox in The Hub mailroom. However, you must open an account with Mason Mail Services to retrieve your mail. You may do that either in person at the service desk (in The Hub) or electronically by using this form.

You will be given your mailbox number, and combination or key. This is the same location to pick up any packages that have been sent to you. 

Close Your Mailbox Account
Please make sure to close out your mailboxes before you graduate, attend a semester abroad, or leave Mason for more than a semester. At the customer service desk in The Hub, you will be able to close your box, return your key (not necessary if you have a combination), and have your mail forwarded for 90 days domestically. Closing your mailbox will prevent a hold on your account and help you leave Mason successfully.

DISCLAIMER: Combination mailboxes can be closed on-line, which can prevent you from having to physically come to the service desk. Click here to close out a mailbox on-line.

Mailbox Keys
Students will receive keys for mailboxes when they register for a personal mailbox in The Hub mailroom. There is no charge for the original but a replacement key is $10.00 cash or Mason Money. If a key no longer works, please come to the customer service window in The Hub to receive a free replacement.


Receiving Packages
Packages sent to any student with a mailbox will be available for pickup in The Hub mailroom. When packages are received, an email will be sent to your George Mason University email.  Make sure to follow the instructions in the email to reduce pickup time.

Expecting a Package?
If you are expecting a package and have not received an email, or package slip, it is likely that we have not received the package or it has not been processed yet.  If you have confirmation that a package is in the mailroom, please bring the tracking information so that it can be located easily.  If the package does not have tracking information (i.e. a first class package), please stop by the customer service window after 4 p.m. and we will check our package system for you.    

Sending Mail

United States Postal Service
First class, priority, and express mail can be sent in Patriot Postal and Packaging (in The Hub).We carry stamps as well as necessary shipping supplies such as boxes, bubble wrap, and envelopes. This location only accepts cash and Mason Money.

We process UPS packages can be processed in The Hub mailroom. Only cash and Mason Money are accepted.  NOTE: We do not sell boxes in The Hub mailroom for UPS ground shipping, so please have packing materials prepared before arriving.  We carry UPS express boxes, express envelopes, and express pad packs. UPS package processing closes at 3:00 p.m. 

Completed UPS packages can be dropped off at both the The Hub mailroom or at the Mail & Go kiosk in the Johnson Center. UPS packages must be at The Hub mailroom by 3:00 p.m. for same day pickup. 

Completed FedEx packages can be dropped off at both The Hub mailroom by 3:00 p.m. for same day pickup.  FedEx express envelopes can also be dropped off at the Fedex pickup box at the Mail & Go kiosk (in the JC) by 6:00 p.m. for same day pickup.

Forwarding Mail
You may have your first class postal mail forwarded to a postal mail address any time for any reason. Some reasons might be:

  • Students moving off campus
  • Students leaving for the summer
  • Students studying abroad

Please note that postal mail other than first class cannot be forwarded.
